Nominated CJP Afridi to arrange farewell lunch for Justice Isa on personal expense

The upcoming Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Yahya Afridi, nominated by a special parliamentary committee on Wednesday, is organising a farewell party to honour his predecessor Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s contributions.

The outgoing CJP is scheduled to retire from his esteemed position on Friday, October 25. 

In an important transition, Justice Yahya Afridi will be sworn in as the new apex court head, marking a significant moment for the judiciary after the ending of seniority rule.

On the occasion of CJP Isa's retirement, Mr Afridi and his colleague have decided to arrange lunch in his honour tomorrow (Friday), at their personal expense.

Previously, CJP Isa had excused himself from attending lunch that was being organised at the public expense.

However, the lunch will be held at the Supreme Court to commemorate CJP Isa’s services. Additionally, CJP Isa is set to inaugurate a monument for basic rights at the SC.

Justice Afridi was appointed as the 30th CJP after the 26th amendment in the constitution of Pakistan, which eliminates seniority rules and allows a parliamentary committee to select a SC head from three candidates.
