Over 80% people contract 'arranged marriages' in Pakistan: survey

A recent survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan, a renowned public opinion research firm, shed light on marriage trends in the country.

The survey revealed that arranged marriages are the norm, with 85% of Pakistani couples married through this tradition.

Only 5% are able to have love marriages, as suggested by the Gallup poll. 

In arranged marriages, families play a primary role in selecting a spouse for their son or daughter.

Families assess compatibility based on various factors such as education, social background, and religious beliefs.

While love marriages are permitted in Islam, the dominant religion in the country, yet they struggle for acceptance in society due to strong cultural and family restrictions.

Although arranged marriages remain prevalent, there is a growing trend of couples having more influence over their choice of spouse, even within arranged marriage setups.
