The only surviving child from the incident in which 14 children died at PIMS Hospital remains in critical condition at the hospital, while her parents have appealed to the nation to pray for her recovery.

The child’s mother, Asifa Bibi, said that her daughter is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and has been affected by smoke inhalation. She said the baby was born prematurely and is therefore physically weak.

According to her mother, the child was born on August 12 at six months and 10 days of gestation and is the couple’s first child.

The child’s father, Waqas, said that her condition improves one day but deteriorates the next. He said she is being given blood transfusions, but her health continues to worsen.

Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal said he visited the ward the previous night and checked on all the children. He said the children who remain under treatment are in critical care.

Meanwhile, speaking to a foreign news agency, nurse Razia Noreen, who helped rescue the child, said she had also tried to save the other children. However, due to the intense smoke and fire, she was unable to re-enter the nursery.

She said the deaths of the other children had left her deeply traumatized.
