In a striking display of opulence, over Rs5 million worth of local and foreign currency was showered during the wedding celebrations of an overseas Pakistani in Sialkot’s Sambrial Tehsil.
The groom, Imran, hailing from Bhakrewali village, tied the knot in an event that captured widespread attention.
As the wedding procession left the village, Imran’s brothers and friends began showering currency notes along the route, creating a spectacle that drew onlookers from nearby areas.
Upon reaching the wedding hall, the celebratory display reached its peak when the groom’s brothers climbed onto a specially-arranged container and showered the crowd with currency notes
Groups of young men from far-off areas flocked to the scene to collect the scattered money.
Imran, who had traveled from Italy for his wedding, was joined by his brothers arriving from Spain and Canada to celebrate the occasion with an ostentatious gesture.
While such extravagant acts have become common at lavish weddings in Pakistan, they often spark criticism for their perceived insensitivity in a country grappling with widespread economic challenges.
Critics argue that the outrageous display of wealth is wasteful and tone-deaf in a society where many struggle to make ends meet.
However, others defend the practice as a celebratory tradition, claiming that the money ultimately benefits those in need.
