The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) released its annual Global Peace Index 2024 report on Tuesday.
The IEP report considers various factors such as safety, security, conflicts, and militarisation to determine the peacefulness of countries.
In the report, Pakistan was ranked 140th out of 163 countries in terms of peacefulness, improving its position by two ranks compared to last year.
Despite the slight improvement, Pakistan remained among the lowest 24 countries in the world.
Iceland topped the list as the most peaceful country for the 16th consecutive year, followed by Ireland and Austria in second and third place, respectively. Singapore ranked 5th and is the most peaceful country in Asia.
The report also highlighted the rankings of other countries in the region, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranking 53rd, China 88th, Bangladesh 93rd, Sri Lanka 100th, Saudi Arabia 102nd, India 116th and America 132nd.
Yemen ranked last at 163rd position supervened by Sudan (162), South Sudan (161), Afghanistan (160), and Ukraine (159).
The report provides a comprehensive overview of global peace and highlights the need for continued efforts to promote peace and stability worldwide.
