Pakistan’s Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS) has unveiled a new hypersonic anti-ship ballistic missile named “SMASH” at the ongoing World Defense Show 2026 in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The missile has been designed for dual-role capability, enabling it to strike both naval and land-based targets.
According to a foreign defence website, GIDS states that the SMASH missile features very high speed, precision guidance, and a near-vertical attack profile, allowing it to evade modern air and missile defence systems.
In its anti-ship configuration, the missile has a reported range of 290 kilometres and is equipped with a 384-kilogram warhead.
For navigation, it uses an HD-GNSS-assisted inertial navigation system, coupled with an active radar seeker for terminal guidance.
The missile is powered by a single-stage, dual-thrust solid rocket motor. Company specifications claim a circular error probable (CEP) of 10 metres or less, while its terminal phase speed can exceed Mach 2.
For land-attack missions, the missile retains the same 290-kilometre range, but the warhead weight has been increased to 444 kilograms. In this variant, guidance relies solely on HD-GNSS-assisted inertial navigation.
This version also employs the same single-stage dual-thrust rocket motor, with a reported accuracy of 15 metres or less and terminal speeds exceeding twice the speed of sound.
GIDS says the SMASH missile has been developed under a dual-role concept, allowing the same missile platform to be used for both maritime and land-based missions.
This approach simplifies logistics and reduces operational costs.
Defence analysts note that demand for long-range precision strike weapons is increasing across the Middle East and other regions, and SMASH is being positioned as an effective system for deployment in high-risk and contested operational environments.
