The federal government has approached the UK authorities to take action over "inciteful" remarks made in a video circulating on social media.

Speaking to a private TV channel, Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry and Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani confirmed the development, saying that the matter had been raised through official channels.

Kayani said that the video contained threats directed at the country’s top military leadership.

In the video, a woman is heard wishing harm on a person without taking his name, saying that they should be “blown up in a car,” while surrounded by people holding PTI flags.

According to state-broadcaster PTV, the woman standing on British soil can be seen openly threatening to kill the Field Marshal in a bomb blast.

Speaking on the issue, Chaudhry said that, “Pakistan has formally written to the UK and expected that the authorities wil act according to their laws and justice system.” He added that the state had the right to pursue legal action against individuals who target national institutions.

Chaudhry recalled that Pakistan had raised similar concerns in the past over the use of social media to spread hatred.

“This is not a political matter, nor does it pertain to freedom of speech,” he said, adding that such statements violated British law, including the UK Terrorism Act 2006.

Kayani described the incident shown in the video as “unacceptable” and said Pakistan was awaiting a response from UK authorities.
