PM Shehbaz bans 'red carpet welcome' for high officials during govt events

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has barred authorities from rolling out the red carpet to welcome federal ministers and high officials during the events organised by the government.

The notification in this regard was issued by the Cabinet Division on Friday.

In the notification, the premier expressed his displeasure over the use of the red carpet in official events.

"The undersigned is directed to state that the Prime Minister, while showing his displeasure on the use of red carpet during the functions and visits by Federal Ministers and other government functionaries, has been pleased to direct that the use of red carpet in the government events shall be stopped forthwith," the notification read.

However, PM Shehbaz allowed the use of red carpet for the diplomatic receptions.

Earlier, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz put a ban on red-carpet welcome for her during her visits to districts of the province.
