Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced that Pakistan would host the signing ceremony of a peace agreement between the United States and Iran in Geneva on June 19, describing the development as a significant step towards regional and global stability.
Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister said the agreement marked the end of military operations between the two countries and represented a victory for diplomacy and dialogue.
The announcement came hours after Shehbaz and US President Donald Trump stated that an agreement had been reached between Washington and Tehran following months of conflict that affected regional security and global energy markets.
Speaking in the lower house of parliament, the premier said the deal signalled a move away from conflict and towards peace. He congratulated the people of Pakistan and the international community on what he termed a major diplomatic achievement.
