Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the introduction of Pakistan’s first Environment Protection Agency (EPA)-certified “Liquid Tree,” describing it as a major step toward making Punjab a greener and more environmentally sustainable province.

The innovative bio-artificial tree is designed to absorb carbon dioxide and improve air quality using algae-based technology. According to the chief minister, more than 100 microalgae species collected from across Pakistan were studied over seven months to identify the most effective variety for carbon capture.

The selected species was discovered in Sukkur and later cultivated with the support of Government College University Faisalabad.

The system features an AI-powered monitoring tool that provides real-time information on carbon dioxide absorption and oxygen production. Maryam Nawaz praised researchers, bioscientists, and EPA officials for successfully developing and testing the technology.

Following successful trials, the Punjab government has decided to expand the project. The chief minister said the Liquid Tree could play a significant role in combating pollution, smog, and carbon emissions in urban areas.

In the initial phase, the artificial trees will be installed at major shopping malls and commercial locations, both indoors and outdoors. Officials believe the technology could become a game changer in improving environmental conditions across the province by functioning similarly to natural trees in absorbing harmful emissions.
