In his message on International Human Rights Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasised the urgent need for the United Nations and the international community to address the severe human rights violations in Gaza, West Bank and the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Marking the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations on December 10, the Prime Minister underscored the significance of this day as a reminder for nations to uphold the protection of fundamental human rights and values.

He stressed that Islam places great importance on respecting human values, a principle deeply rooted in its teachings.

Highlighting a national achievement, PM Shehbaz stated, "It is a matter of pride for us that in 2024, the National Commission for Human Rights has been accredited as an A-Status NHRI by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, indicating its compliance with the Paris Principles."

"The world should not turn a blind eye to the gravest human tragedies of our time," said PM Shehbaz, urging the international community to take immediate action to halt the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

“Likewise, the gross human rights violations in  IIOJK also need immediate attention from the global community, including the UN. Pakistan shall continue to extend moral, political, and diplomatic support to the people of IIOJK and the people of Palestine until they achieve their universal right to self-determination.”

He further reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting oppressed populations globally.

“Pakistan shall continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of IIOJK and the people of Palestine until they achieve their universal right to self-determination.”

He also highlighted the government’s initiatives, including enacting laws to protect the rights of vulnerable groups such as women, children, the elderly, transgenders, minorities, and persons with disabilities.

He added that these rights are enshrined in Pakistan’s Constitution and are safeguarded by independent national commissions established to address human rights concerns.
