Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif and his party members vowed to hold business talks with India in order to boost diplomatic ties between the neighbouring countries.
“I have always been a supporter of good relations with India, and there is an opportunity to revive a relationship,” said the ex-premier in an interview with an Indian journalist Barkha Dutt.
The PML-N supremo expressed his desire to strengthen relations with India during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Islamabad.
The high-delegations meeting will be attended by Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
On the other hand, the vice prime minister Ishaq Dar believes Pakistan is ready to collaborate with India.
Dar said that the SCO meeting will bring numerous opportunities for Pakistan, and "it will help to restore ties with the world, including India".
Pakistan and India both have a troubled history in their relationship, and the imposition of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir effectively halted diplomatic relations between the countries.
However, Islamabad attributed its decision to normalise ties with New Dehli to the restoration of the special status of the IIOJK.
Earlier in 2023, Nawaz Sharif stressed the need to improve relationships with neighbours, India and Afghanistan, for stability and peace in the region.
