Karachi police claimed that minor siblings Ayan and Anabiya, who returned home on Wednesday 13 hours after going missing from the North Nazimabad area of Karachi in the late hours of Tuesday, have not attended school since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Police added that the children have not met their mother Shumaila Naz, who has been residing in Dubai for ten years.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Central, Zeeshan Siddiqui, said that the 11-year-old and 12-year-old left their home on their own due to mistreatment from maternal relatives.

“Their mother has been living in Dubai for a decade and has not visited Pakistan for two years,” the top police officer said.

The minor children, in a video statement, also accused their maternal aunt of torture and forcing them to clean washrooms.

Contrary to the claims made by children and police, Sindh Rangers said that they thwarted a kidnapping for ransom bid by using modern technical sources.

Following the return of minor siblings, the police handed them over to their elder maternal aunt and also deployed a lady constable outside the house.

It is pertinent to mention that the parents of the children had separated nine years ago and Ayan and Anabiya were living with their grand mother and maternal uncle.

However, the case of children's custody is underway at Karachi's family court.
