Police constable shot dead near Jamali Pul in Karachi

A police constable was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Jamali Pul in Karachi on Monday, police said.

According to the police, Constable Zaman was waiting near Jamali Pul for a fellow cop before heading to duty.

Police officials said that when the other officer arrived, he went to a nearby ambulance to drink water. During that time, one of the suspects approached Constable Zaman, briefly spoke to him and then pulled out a pistol and opened fire.

Investigators said the attacker snatched the constable's service pistol after he collapsed. The two assailants, who were on a motorcycle, fled the scene after the shooting.

Police believe the attackers were lying in wait for the constable before carrying out the attack. Initial investigations indicate that the victim was struck by five to six bullets.

The slain constable was serving in the Sohrab Goth Division.

Meanwhile, Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar sought a report on the incident from the SSP East and directed police to arrest those responsible and bring them to justice.
