President Zardari approves 26th Constitutional Amendment

Following the majority's approval of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the gazette notification was issued after President President Asif Ali Zardari signed the bill.
The bill was approved by a majority of votes in the National Assembly on Sunday.
Amidst the tense environment on the political side, the notification was issued by the National Assembly, which turned the bill of 26 constitutional amendments into an Act of Parliament 2024.
Following the issuance of the gazette notification, the amendments will be executed, and subsequently, the committee will be formed to kick off the process of appointing the successor of Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, who is set to retire on October 25.
Under sub-section three of article 175-A, the ongoing CJP sent the names of three judges to the parliamentary committee, and one of the three will be selected as the head of the judiciary.
The selected name of the CJP will be referred to the prime minister, and the premier will advise the president to appoint the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
A 12-member committee consisting of eight MNAs and four senators with the majority of treasury bench members will consider a name of a Judge from three for the CJP post, and it will be sent to the Prime Minister.
