The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Monday evening that the Ramazan moon has been sighted in Pakistan and the first of the holy month will fall on Tuesday (tomorrow).
The announcement was made by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad at a press conference in Peshawar.
The central body was holding its meeting at the Auqaf Department building in Peshawar while the zonal and district committees held moon-sighting gatherings at their respective offices across the country.
Addressing a press conference, Maulana Azad said that the committee received moon-sighting testimonies from a number of places in the country, including Lahore, Peshawar, Sawat, Sargodha and others.
“Therefore, it was unanimously decided that the first of Ramazan would be on March 12,” he added.
The meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held in Peshawar for the second consecutive year in order to develop consensus about the start of Ramazan across the country on the same day.
On the other hand, the Ramadan moon was also sighted in India.
