Rana Sanaullah says no popular demand for new provinces at public level

Prime Minister's Adviser Rana Sanaullah said that the establishment has not held any discussion with the government over the creation of new provinces, adding that the matter has not yet been discussed in the cabinet or parliament.

Speaking on TV programme, Rana Sanaullah said federal ministers calling for new provinces should present a written formula. “Has Aleem Khan presented any plan regarding provinces? Provinces cannot be created simply by talking about them or appearing on podcasts,” he said.

He said no plan for creating new provinces had been prepared so far, adding that some people were talking about 12 provinces, others 32 and some 20.

“Can anyone simply imagine that this is how the country should be?” he asked.

Rana Sanaullah said Mustafa Kamal's proposal was limited to Karachi and there was no popular demand for new provinces at the public level, except for Hazara province.

He added that the top leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had not discussed the creation of new provinces in recent days.

“Our thinking is that the problems of ordinary people should be resolved at their doorstep,” he said.
