The camel, whose leg was amputated by a landlord and his staff earlier this month, is all set to stand up with the help of a support structure.

The 8-month-old camel calf was shifted to Karachi from Sanghar for treatment at CDRS Benji, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO).

Director CDRS Sarah Jahangir announced that Cammie will receive an artificial leg once her injury fully heals.

A team from Bioniks Pakistan, a prosthetics manufacturing company, has set up a support structure with a harness to help the camel stand up for the first time since the attack.

The NGO expressed gratitude to the Department of Livestock and Bioniks Pakistan for their support in arranging a support structure for the wounded animal.

The incident took place on June 15 near Mund Jamrao in Sanghar district when a feudal lord Ghulam Rasool Shar, along with his accomplices, brutally tortured the female camel and severed its leg with a sharp tool after it allegedly entered his field.

The owner of the camel, Somerbhan, protested against the inhumane act at the Press Club Sanghar, holding the amputated leg as evidence.

Despite the outcry, the Sanghar police initially failed to take action against the influential landlord.

Following the protest, the police were forced to arrest six suspects, including Rustam Shar, Abid Shar, Jaffar Jatt, Abdul Shakoor Shar, Gul Baig Lashari and Darya Khan Shar.

A case was registered against the suspects under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

However, an investigation officer, Loung Khan Shar, informed the local court in Nawabshah on June 20 that the police could not find any evidence against the landlord.
