SC allows medical and phone call facility to former PM Imran Khan in Adiala jail

SC has ordered authorities to arrange a medical examination for former PM Imran Khan and allow him to speak with his sons by February 16.

According to reports, CJ Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan issued the directions during proceedings on Khan’s detention at Adiala Jail. 

The court instructed officials to form a medical team to examine his eye condition and ensure telephone contact with his children before the deadline. 

The decision came after advocate Salman Safdar submitted a written assessment following a jail visit to review Khan’s health and living conditions. 

During the hearing, the chief justice claimed that providing medical treatment to prisoners was the state’s responsibility, however, he emphasized that no special treatment would be granted and that all prisoners must receive equal medical facilities.

Furthermore, the court rejected the request that Khan’s medical examination be conducted in the presence of family members, but maintained that doctors’ access and communication with his sons will be ensured.
