Mir Raza Ali case: 24 questions sent to Sindh CM remain unanswered, says Jibran Nasir

KARACHI: Lawyer Jibran Nasir, representing Mir Raza Ali’s family, has said that 24 questions were raised in a letter sent to the Sindh chief minister, but no answers have been provided so far.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, Jibran Nasir said he could not question the capability of any judge. However, if the matter was beyond the province’s capacity, or if the judge appointed was assisted by the same police team, there would be concerns because the team had failed to establish anything in 15 days.

He said the motorcycle and white Alto involved in the case had still not been traced.

Jibran Nasir questioned the investigation methods, saying authorities ask how many white Alto cars were stopped at night and whether people were wearing seat belts or using mobile phones while driving.

He said cameras can automatically issue a Rs10,000 fine for such violations, but camera technology was not being used in the Mir Raza case.

“We are taking things back to the 1950s. Such are the investigation procedures being followed,” Jibran Nasir pointed out.

A judicial commission has been constituted by the Sindh High Court to investigate the Mir Raza Murder Case, headed by Justice Umar Sial, as per a notification from the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court upon the request of the Sindh government.

The Karachi mayor Murtaza Wahab has stated that the government had constituted the judicial commission for providing justice to Mir Raza.

According to him, the lawyer wrote to the chief minister in a letter dated August 19 where he expressed his frustration with the home minister, IG and the police as they have failed and hoped that the chief minister will provide justice.

On the other hand, the family members of Mir Raza have lodged a plea against the formation of the judicial commission. Notices have been issued by the Sindh High Court to the parties for August 31.

Furthermore, the investigation officer in the Mir Raza Murder Case has requested time for submitting the investigation report, as forensic reports of the mobile phone and other items are awaited.
