Renowned anchor Shahzeb Khanzada has responded to backlash from Pakistan Tehreek–e-Insaf (PTI) over his old program discussing Bushra Bibi’s Iddat case. The journalist, who was recently confronted by a PTI supporter at a clothing store, shared a clip of the episode to clarify his stance.

Taking to X, Khanzada addressed a post by PTI leader Shahbaz Gill, who claimed that the media had not condemned Khanzada for airing the program.

PTI supporters criticized the anchor for covering details of a petition filed by Khawar Maneka, who alleged that his wife did not complete her Iddat period before marrying again and requested an examination of her menstrual cycles.

“This is classic Shahbaz Gill. When he was a minister, he was caught lying several times, and here again he is lying,” Khanzada wrote.

Shahzeb also shared a clip of his program, where he criticized Khawar Maneka for questioning his ex-wife’s character six years after their divorce and creating legal troubles over deeply personal matters out of a personal vendetta.

“Khawar Maneka has engaged in shameful actions,” Khanzada said. “He is using all obnoxious and cheap tactics to prolong cases against his wife. He has now requested the court to form a medical board to examine her menstrual cycle.”

Khanzada strongly condemned Maneka’s allegations against Bushra Bibi and emphasized that divorce should not be treated as a matter of public scrutiny in Pakistan.

In July 2024, a local court in Islamabad quashed the convictions of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case and ordered their acquittal.

Khawar Maneka’s lawyer had requested that the convictions of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be upheld, which the court rejected.

It should be noted that on February 3, 2024, Judge Qudratullah of the Civil Court of Islamabad had convicted Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi of marriage during the waiting period and sentenced them to seven years in prison and a fine of five million rupees each.

Khawar Maneka had filed a petition in the civil court on November 25, 2023. He claimed that he had divorced his wife. However, after the divorce, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi got married before the waiting period was completed, which according to the petitioner is an un-Islamic act.
