Sheikh Naveed, a resident of New South Wales who was falsely being identified as a suspect in the Sydney beach tragedy, has strongly denied any involvement in the attack.

He said Israeli, Indian, and Afghan media outlets have been spreading misinformation by circulating his photograph as that of the alleged attacker.

The Sydney beach shooting left more than 12 people dead and injured dozens of others. Sheikh Naveed called the social media and media propaganda against him “baseless” and urged the public to verify facts before believing unconfirmed reports.

Earlier, Sheikh Naveed was being dubbed as the attacker in Sydney beach incident.

At least 12 people were killed when gunmen opened fire on a crowd gathered for the first night of Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish festival marking the endurance of faith.

NSW Police confirmed that one of the two attackers was shot dead at the scene, while the second was critically injured and taken into custody.

Authorities have not yet clarified whether Akram was the suspect killed or the one arrested.
