The Sindh government has announced the launch of the second phase of its Pink Scooty Scheme to promote women’s mobility and independence, Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed on Friday.
Following the success of the scheme’s initial phase in September, the provincial government will soon begin distributing scooters under the new phase. Women have been encouraged to obtain driving licences, complete training courses, and register for the programme.
Sharjeel said the initiative aims to help women reclaim control over their movement and ensure safe, dignified transport as they pursue education and careers.
“The first phase received an overwhelming response,” he said. “Dozens of women learned to drive, secured licences, and began commuting on their Pink Scooties.”
The minister added that the Pink Scooty Scheme complements other provincial transport initiatives, including the People’s Bus Service, the Pink Bus Service, and the Electric Bus Service, all designed to provide affordable and reliable public transport.
