The Sindh government has declared a public holiday across the province on Wednesday, May 1, in observance of International Labour Day.

According to an official notification issued by the Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department, all government offices, semi-government institutions, and affiliated organizations will remain closed for the day. Educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, will also remain shut.

International Labour Day, commonly known as May Day, is observed annually on May 1 across the globe to honor the contributions and rights of workers.

The day is marked to promote awareness about labour rights and to advocate for better working conditions and job security.

In Pakistan, as in many other countries, Labour Day is a public holiday. Various trade unions, labour organizations, and civil society groups use the occasion to highlight issues faced by the working class and to call for policy reforms.

The day also commemorates the historical struggles of labour movements worldwide, particularly the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago, which played a significant role in the fight for an eight-hour workday.
