The Sindh government has announced the deployment of the province’s first female bike ambulance responders as part of efforts to improve emergency medical services in densely populated urban areas.

The initiative, launched by the Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services (SIEHS-1122), will see 50 trained female paramedics deployed by the end of the current quarter. They will work alongside male counterparts in mixed-gender response teams across Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.

“These responders will be stationed at designated take-off points and equipped with 150cc motorcycles,” SIEHS said in a statement. “Each bike is fitted with life-saving medical gear, communication devices, and essential emergency drugs.”

The initiative is designed to address delays faced by conventional ambulances in congested areas by allowing quicker medical response through motorcycles. It also aims to enhance gender representation in emergency services.

According to officials, the responders have undergone a four-week intensive field training program, which included simulated emergency situations, navigation drills, and heat stress adaptation.

Each bike ambulance is intended to function as a mobile unit for stabilizing patients before further transport. The initiative complements existing ambulance services already operating under the 1122 emergency network in Sindh.

Authorities said the program builds on earlier steps to improve emergency access, such as the deployment of female ambulance drivers in rural areas like Sanghar.
