Sindh govt to celebrate 79th Independence Day with cultural festivities across province

The Sindh government has announced plans to celebrate Pakistan's 79th Independence Day with patriotic zeal, featuring cultural events and city-wide decorations on August 14.
The announcement was made in a high-level meeting presided over by Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon to plan the celebrations. Others, including ministers, special assistants, officials, and the President of the Arts Council, Ahmed Shah, also attended the meeting.
The attendees reviewed all the arrangements for celebrations, and it was decided that government buildings, roads, buses, trains, markets, and public places will be decorated with national flags, lights, and banners, and a media campaign will also be launched to invite the public to join in.

The meeting discussed the schedule of events across the province, cultural programmes, media plans, cleanliness, safety, and how to involve people at the district level.
Sharjeel Memon said that this year, Independence Day should be celebrated not just with joy, but also with the spirit of patriotism, unity, and truth.
He added that special programs will be held for children, women, minorities, and senior citizens. Events will take place at the district level and will show the Sindh government’s commitment to democracy, development, human rights, and national unity.
On the occasion, Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that the day will be celebrated with activities, like tree planting, cleanliness drives, blood donations, and public service to make it more meaningful.

He said that people from all districts will be involved so that it becomes a celebration for everyone, not just the government.
Minister Saeed Ghani said that local governments will organise programmes at the ward, union council, and town levels. These will include rallies, national songs, and youth sports competitions to inspire the younger generation.
Culture Minister Zulfiqar Shah said that to promote Sindh’s culture, special events such as poetry nights, qawwali shows, and theatre performances will be held, schools, colleges, and theatre groups will take part.
He described the potential celebrations as a way to connect with our cultural heritage.
