Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said that the provincial assembly has formally approved the Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (SEPRA). The official notification for SEPRA is expected to be issued later this month.

He explained that the move will allow Sindh to set its own electricity tariffs, which will be significantly lower than those of K-Electric.

Under the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC), the province will generate and distribute its own electricity, independent of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) rates.

According to the minister, the initiative aims to supply affordable electricity to Karachi’s industries and residents. He added that efforts are underway to deliver power through the first four grids under SEPRA in the near future.

Energy company K-Electric's tariffs and pricing are currently determined by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

However, details on how the new Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (SEPRA) would specifically handle this role were not shared by Minister Ansir Shah.
