Sindh IG admits lapses in Mir Raza Ali case, says no one will be spared

Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho has admitted lapses in the investigation into the Mir Raza Ali case, saying mistakes were made by police as well as medico-legal officer of the health department.

Speaking to the media during his visit to the Sindh Bar Council, the IG described the Mir Raza Ali case as an extremely tragic and distressing incident, but said a new investigation committee is actively working to ensure a transparent probe.

He said that all shortcomings identified during the investigation were being addressed and the probe was continuing in light of the detailed medical board report.

Odho said police had initially proceeded with the investigation on the basis of the first medico-legal report received in the case.

“Everyone made mistakes in the Mir Raza case. The medico-legal officer of the health department also made a mistake,” the IG said.

He said the new investigation team had been directed to examine the case with an open mind. There was no pressure on the new investigation committee, he added, nor had there been any pressure on the previous team.

The IG made it clear that anyone found involved in wrongdoing would face action without discrimination and “no one will be spared”.

Odho said Mir Raza's parents had expressed satisfaction with the ongoing police investigation. He added that there had been no pressure on the case, but some issues had emerged due to misunderstandings.
