Six Pakistani sailors injured in a Houthi attack on a Tanzania-flagged commercial vessel in the Red Sea have safely returned to Pakistan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Thursday.
The Tihamah came under attack on Aug 11, resulting in the deaths of Pakistani and Indonesian crew members and injuries to others.
In a post on X, Dar said the six injured sailors had returned safely, while the mortal remains of two Pakistani sailors who died in the incident had also been repatriated.
He appreciated Pakistan’s Consulate General in Jeddah and embassy in Riyadh for facilitating the repatriation, particularly in the absence of a Pakistani diplomatic mission in Yemen.
Dar also praised the Federal Investigation Agency and Saudi authorities for providing assistance, including medical arrangements in Jeddah. He reiterated Pakistan’s condemnation of the attack and stressed that the safety and security of seafarers must be protected.
