Sonia Shamroz has become the first-ever woman to be appointed as the Additional Inspector General (AIG) Establishment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Hailing from Abbottabad district, Shamroz joined the police service in 2013 and served as ASP and DPO in several districts of Pakistan’s four largest provinces. Shamroz also served as DPO Chitral and Battagram.

Sonia Shamroz believed that her appointment as AIG ended the impression of discrimination among the men and women in the province.

Expressing gratitude for her promotion, she said the authorities have been giving equal rights to all.

Inspector General (IG) KP, Akhtar Hayat Khan, said police forces are working on prioritising women's representation in the law enforcement departments.

However, Shamroz's dedication was recognised by the local and international authorities as well and she was honoured with awards for her performances.

First Women AIG has also played a crucial role in overcoming the issues related to the prevention of child marriages and violence against women.
