School access blocked by aggressive excavation

TAXILA: Resident citizens claimed that the private housing society had dug very deep trenches in the Government Boys Primary School Dhoke Syedo in the suburbs of Dhoke Syedo, leaving hundreds of students, teachers and resident citizens in dire straits with children exposed to grave danger.

As per the statements of local residents, digging trenches on all sides of the educational institution has left children with difficulty and risk in terms of reaching the school.

Parents also mentioned that such kind of digging around the school is not only risking children's lives but also disrupting their studies.

Citizens complained that the private housing society had dug trenches around the school for either occupying or expanding the boundary lines of the private housing society, causing problems for the governmental educational institution.

Citizens warned that if the authorities did not act fast, the problem could be worsened in the rain season due to deepening of trenches.

Local residents, parents and members of civil society have called on the deputy commissioner of Rawalpindi, the assistant commissioner of Taxila, the education department, revenue authorities and other relevant institutions to intervene immediately. They demanded that the trenches around the school be filled without delay, safe access for students be restored and a transparent inquiry be conducted.

They further urged that if any individual or institution is found responsible for illegal encroachment or an attempt to occupy land, strict legal action should be taken.
