The Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed the transfer of all funds available in the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams fund to the government's public account.
The ruling, issued by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, comes after a hearing related to the management and utilization of the dams fund.
In the six-page judgment, Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa stated that the Supreme Court's dam fund account should be closed once the transfer is complete.
A sub-account under the public account of the federal government will be established to manage these funds.
The court clarified that the funds will remain available for use by the government whenever needed for the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams.
Furthermore, the judgment emphasized that the government should ensure the funds are invested in private banks to earn markup, thus maximizing the resources available for future dam construction.
The decision, delivered on October 9, followed the federal government’s request to release the funds to the federation and the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).
The court also noted that after a thorough investigation, no misappropriation of the dam fund was found.
With these directives, the Supreme Court dismissed all petitions filed in connection with the dam fund case, marking the conclusion of the legal proceedings related to the fund's management.
