US deports Pakistani national after labeling him security threat

A 56-year-old Pakistani national living in the United States illegally was deported by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after being declared a national security threat.

The deportee, identified as Syed Rizvi, was removed from the country on February 25 after US intelligence classified him as a national security priority under the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Rizvi, who had been residing illegally in Dallas, Texas, was arrested on January 31 during a routine traffic stop. An immigration judge had ordered his deportation on January 24.

According to authorities, Rizvi legally entered the United States through the New York Port of Entry on September 20, 2017, but later violated the conditions of his stay.

Commenting on the deportation, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Dallas Field Office Acting Director Josh Johnson stated, "Illegal aliens suspected or known to have ties to organizations that threaten public safety will not find refuge in the US."

Reports confirmed that Rizvi had been living in Dallas without legal authorisation.

His deportation is also part of an ongoing crackdown on immigrants in the US following Trump's return to power.

US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering a travel ban on citizens of Afghanistan and Pakistan, which could be implemented as early as next week.

According to Reuters, the US government is assessing "security and vetting risks" associated with various countries, a process that may lead to new travel restrictions.
