Pakistan People's Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto like his grandfather Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, played a crucial role in developing consensus among treasury and opposition benches on the 26th constitutional amendment.
Both houses of the Parliament passed the amendment with a majority after which the president signed the bill to turn it into a law
Bilawal did his due by forwarding the legacy of his grandfather Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and mother Benazir Bhutto and the entire country is lauding his democratic and political acumen
The former foreign minister did his best to take JUI-F chief Molana Fazlur Rehman on board for the constitutional amendment as he was drifting to the PTI to oppose the amendment.
At one point it was reported that Fazlur Rehman might oppose the 26th constitutional amendment bill but Bilawal rushed back to Islamabad from Hyderabad after addressing a public gathering about Karsaz carnage anniversary to again hold a meeting with the JUI-F chief.
Bilawal's mission was finally successful as Fazl agreed to support the government's move with some changes which the government accepted.
The role of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was also lauded by PM Shehba Sharif, Fazlur Rehman, AImal Wali Khan and others for developing consensus.
The amendment made significant changes in the constitution, including the method of appointing the CJP, curtailed the right of the judiciary to take suo-moto, and ordered the formation of constitutional benches.
A major cause of conflict was a proposed federal constitutional court, which was opposed by the PTI and Maulana Fazlur Rehman who called for a constitution bench instead, which was later included in the draft.
