Internet users throughout Pakistan are currently facing disruptions attributed to a fault in the international submarine cable AAE1, as reported by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

A spokesperson for the PTA confirmed that they had received notifications regarding the cable issue and issued a warning about the fault, indicating that internet and broadband users across the country may encounter connectivity challenges.

"The cable in question is one of seven submarine cables that connect Pakistan to the global internet infrastructure," the spokesperson stated.

Efforts to rectify the situation are in progress, with dedicated teams actively engaged in repairing the fault. The PTA has assured the public that it is diligently monitoring the developments and will provide updates as the situation progresses.

Earlier today, during a session of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology, the chairman of the PTA made a notable statement concerning the status of internet services in the nation.

Maj Gen (retd) Hafeezur Rehman reported that three of the seven submarine cables linking Pakistan to the global internet had been severed, resulting in internet service disruptions.

However, he confirmed that the cables were fully restored by October 2024, following a five-month delay.
