The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority declared on Friday the halt of mobile internet services in specific regions of Balochistan to “ensure public safety.”
“This action has been implemented to ensure public safety, considering the security situation in these regions,” PTA noted in a statement.
The decision follows a rise in terrorist activities within the province.
Recent incidents include a suicide bombing at the Quetta Railway Station on November 9, which led to at least 27 deaths and over 50 injuries, as reported by local officials and medical personnel.
On September 26, a bombing aimed at a police vehicle in Quetta caused injuries to at least two police officers and a number of other civilians.
Authorities indicated that unknown attackers placed an explosives-rigged motorcycle in the Bhosa Mandi area of the Eastern Bypass.
The detonation was set off when a police vehicle arrived on the scene, allegedly using a remote-controlled mechanism.
On Thursday, two members of the security forces, including a major, lost their lives during a confrontation with terrorists in Harnai, Balochistan.
The fallen security personnel were identified as Major Muhammad Haseeb, 28, a resident of Rawalpindi, and Havildar Noor Ahmed, 38, from Barkhan.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations said: “Security forces under Major Muhammad Haseeb were promptly dispatched to secure the area upon reports of terrorists who were planning to target innocent civilians in Harnai district.”
