The top android phones maker, Samsung, has once again clinched the number one position as the biggest mobile phone seller, dethroing tech-rival Apple.

Apple's smartphones sales slashed by 10 percent in the first quarter of 2024, data from research firm IDC showed on Sunday.

Samsung was the biggest seller of mobile phones for 12 years until the end of 2023. However, the sopt was secured by Apple’s iPhone in the previous year.

According to IDC, global smartphone shipments increased by 7.8 percent to 289.4 million units during January-March period.

Samsung won a 20.8% market share, beating Apple’s 17.3% share, the report said.

In the first quarter, Apple shipped 50.1 million iPhones, down from the 55.4 million units in the same period last year. 

Apple has witnessed biggest drop in iPhone sales since Covid-19 lockdowns in 2022.

Xiaomi, one of China's top smartphone makers, bagged the third position with a market share of 14.1% during the first quarter.

As per research firm, the iPhones sales were slashed due to the increasing demand of loacally-made Xiaomi and Huawei in China.

At the same time, China’s government has moved to ban devices made by foreign companies from workplaces.

Earlier this year, Apple lost the crown as the world's most valuable company to Microsoft (MSFT.O).
