WhatsApp Alert: Avoid these actions to keep your account active

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned WhatsApp users that accounts registered against inactive, cancelled or unused mobile numbers could face blocking as the regulator prepares to take action.

According to the PTA, inactive mobile numbers are increasingly being used to operate WhatsApp accounts for fraudulent activities, scams and other unlawful purposes.

The authority has therefore directed telecom operators to ensure that WhatsApp accounts remain associated with active and valid mobile numbers.

 Officials said enforcement could begin without further notice, urging users to verify the status of their SIM cards to avoid losing access to their WhatsApp accounts.

 Users who have changed their mobile numbers have also been advised to update their WhatsApp accounts through the app’s “Change Number” feature. The process allows users to transfer their account information to a new active number.

 The PTA has encouraged mobile users to check their SIM status and ensure that the number linked to their WhatsApp account is currently active before enforcement begins.
