WhatsApp has begun allowing users to reserve usernames ahead of the global rollout of a new feature that will enable people to connect without sharing their phone numbers.
According to the company, users with the latest version of WhatsApp can reserve a username by navigating to Settings > Account > Username. The feature is being introduced gradually and is not yet available in all countries, including Pakistan.
Once the feature is fully launched, users who choose to create a username will be able to message individuals and businesses without revealing their phone numbers. Instead, recipients will see the sender's username.
WhatsApp said the feature will remain optional, meaning users can continue using the platform with their phone numbers if they prefer.
The messaging platform, which has more than three billion users worldwide, has opened username reservations ahead of the wider rollout to help users secure their preferred names.
