11-year-old boy accidentally shoots mother while playing with gun in Lahore

An 11-year-old boy accidentally shot his mother in the chest while playing with a gun in the lower mall area of Lahore, it emerged on Friday. 

A first information report (FIR) was registered by local police following the incident.

The details in the police complaint revealed that the minor suspect identified as Zulqurnain was playing with a pistol at home when it misfired.

The bullet struck the 33-year-old mother, Asma, in the chest, causing serious injuries.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, Asma succumbed to her injuries and her body was transferred to the morgue.

The victim’s husband Khurram Jahangir registered a complaint with the police.

The minor suspect is under investigation, and the Deputy Inspector General of Operations has instructed the Superintendent of Police for the City to personally oversee the case.

Previously, a 5-year-old boy was killed after his minor cousin accidentally fired a loaded gun in Karachi’s Azam Basti.

The victim, identified as Burhan, was injured by a pistol that belonged to his father, Babar Javed.

A similar tragedy occurred earlier on August 29, in Federal B Area, Block-3, where a man accidentally shot his 11-month-old daughter while cleaning his pistol.

Initially, the baby’s parents told the police that the incident was an accident, but authorities expressed doubt over their statements.

The deceased girl’s body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and police launched an investigation into the matter.

The easy access to firearms and the irresponsible handling of weapons continue to pose a serious threat and raise concerns about the increasing frequency of such tragic incidents.
