Three armed men robbed an American family at gunpoint in the federal capital on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

According to the police, the incident took place in the jurisdiction of I-9 sector police station, where an American resident, identified as David, and his family were looted near Markaz I-8.

The First Information Report (FIR) of the incident stated that David, with his wife and daughter, was sitting in the car when suddenly three armed men came on a motorbike and robbed the family. 

The robbers deprived them of two iPhones and a few thousand rupees of cash. 

A spokesperson for the police said a special team was formed to investigate the incident, and the authorities are probing the matter from all aspects. 

Earlier in March, another family was looted by armed dacoits after reaching Pakistan from Saudi Arabia.

The muggers traced the car of the family and committed the crime at the Bhara Kahu bypass.

According to the law enforcers, the robbers disguised as policemen to rob the family.

The bandits had looted cash, gold ornaments, mobile phones and other valuables from the van carrying Saudi-returns.
