LAHORE: As Eidul Azha approaches, rising prices of sacrificial animals have become a major concern for buyers, while traders argue that increasing expenses on fodder, transportation and animal care have driven up costs.
In cattle markets, goats and sheep are being sold between Rs90,000 and Rs125,000, while premium breeds are priced up to Rs400,000. Bulls, calves and camels are also being offered at significantly higher rates depending on breed, weight and health.
Traders say prices are determined by market demand and animal quality, whereas buyers complain that rates have become unaffordable.
Officials from the Punjab Cattle Market Management and Development Company said there is no official pricing mechanism for sacrificial animals and advised citizens to purchase livestock only from registered cattle markets.
