Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has suspended a police officer who tortured a citizen in Multan.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday ordered the arrest of the police officer who committed the violence

Maryam Nawaz said, "If the police have respect, then the common man also has respect. It is my duty to take care of the self-respect of every citizen."

She said “I will not allow anyone to oppress and abuse the common man”. I was very hurt after watching the footage of the violence, Maryam Nawaz Said.

SHO Shafiq, who was stationed at New Multan police station, was suspended by CPO Sadiq Ali Dogar following the incident.

The video, which quickly went viral, sparked outrage on social media, with users criticising the police officer’s harsh treatment of an elderly citizen.

The footage showed the officer thrashing the man from his moving bike as he attempted to pass through the restricted route.
