Dumper driver who crushed newlywed motorcyclist in Karachi granted bail

A Karachi court on Wednesday approved bail of the driver of a dumper truck involved in a road accident that killed a motorcyclist in Karachi’s Garden area.

The driver was presented before a judicial magistrate  (South) by the Garden police. The court granted him bail against a surety of Rs3 million.

The suspect, however, was sent to jail due to the bail amount not being deposited immediately.

The accident occurred on Nishtar Road near Karachi Sweets on Monday night when a garbage dumper struck 23-year-old Shahzeb Shahid, killing him instantly and injuring his wife, Misbah.

The driver was apprehended by the public after the accident and handed over to the police. 

A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Niazullah Afzal under Sections 320 (negligent driving) and 337-G (hurt by rash or negligent driving) of the Pakistan Penal Code, based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father.

According to the FIR, Shahzeb, who had been married for three to four months, died before his family arrived at the hospital.

The complainant stated that the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving by the dumper driver.
