The total death toll in Gul Plaza tragedy has now reached 73, while 82 people remain missing.
Human remains continue to be recovered from the rubble of Gul Plaza, located on Karachi’s main M.A. Jinnah Road. Another body was identified earlier today with the help of DNA analysis.
According to CPLC Identification Project in-charge Aamir Hasan, the identified victim was named Abdul Haseeb.
Of the 23 identified bodies so far, 16 were confirmed through DNA testing.
He added that human remains were also recovered from the third floor and have been shifted to Civil Hospital for further examination.
Despite the passage of nine days, rescue operations remained halted from the morning, while machinery remained non-operational.
A large number of relatives of missing persons were present at the site, and smoke continued to rise from the debris.
A Rescue 1122 official stated that debris from the basement has been cleared.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso said that search and recovery operations are expected to be completed today, though debris removal work will continue.
