A sessions court on Thursday issued a notice to the Gulshan-e-Iqbal SHO to submit a reply to an application seeking registration of an FIR against Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and others over the death of three-year-old Ibrahim, who fell into an open manhole near Nipa Chowrangi.
The district and sessions judge (East) took up an application filed by Advocate Sheikh Saqib Ahmed seeking the registration of a case against the Mayor of Karachi and other officials over the child’s death. The court has scheduled the next hearing for December 11.
Advocate Sheikh Saqib requested the court to order the registration of a case of culpable homicide against the Mayor of Karachi and the Town Chairman of Gulshan-e-Iqbal. He also sought action against other responsible officials.

The applicant stated that the child’s family had accused the local and district administration of negligence. It claimed that the named officials failed to perform their duties and that poor maintenance of infrastructure led to the death of the three-year-old.
The family reportedly spent PKR 15,000 to hire private machinery to locate the child, as rescue teams did not arrive on time.
The applicant pleaded with the court to direct the police to register a case against the named officials.
