More than 60 people have lost their lives in collisions with heavy vehicles since the start of the year, according to statistics shared by the non-governmental organisation Chhipa Welfare.

Data released late Saturday night revealed that at least 63 people were killed in accidents involving dumpers and trailers, excluding three additional deaths reported in separate road traffic accidents (RTAs) in the early hours of Friday.

The data was broken into categories, with 17 people lost their lives in collisions with dumpers, while trailer accidents claimed 22 lives. 

At least 11 were killed in the accident by water tankers, while public transport, wagons and buses took five and eight lives, respectively.

Cumulatively, within the 80 days of the year, RTAs have claimed 207 lives, while 2,623 people have been injured in road accidents.

Notably, RTAs took three more lives on Friday before Sehri, as an incident was reported from Karachi’s Jauhar, leaving Abdul Saboor, 25, dead, when his bike was hit by a concrete mixture.

Similarly, a motorcyclist was also killed after being hit by a dumper at Liaquatabad No 10. In another accident, a motorcyclist lost his life after being hit by a vehicle at Keamari No 1.
