A duty magistrate in Rawalpindi on Wednesday extended the police remand of Hina Javed’s husband and domestic servant for another three days in connection with the investigation into her murder.
Javed, a 45-year-old digital media executive, was found dead with her hands tied behind her back in the washroom of an apartment in Rawalpindi last Thursday. The police said that her body showed signs of torture and formed a special investigation team to probe the killing.
The two suspects were produced before Duty Magistrate Rana Shah Nawaz on completion of their earlier three-day remand. The police sought another seven days of custody, but the court granted a three-day physical remand.
The victim’s family lawyer, Shah Khawar, told reporters after the hearing that the investigation was progressing in the right direction, with police having collected evidence and conducted forensic examinations.
He said the postmortem examination found a fractured hyoid bone and marks of torture on Javed’s body. Swab, saliva and blood samples were also collected and sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) for analysis.
The complete postmortem report, including the cause of death and other findings, will be prepared after the PFSA report is received.
