Internet services in Muzaffarabad were restored in the evening of Wednesday after being cut off for 53 days since June 6 when broadband connectivity was blocked.
Services have been restored at around 10 pm and are working as usual, however, mobile internet data services are facing connectivity issues.
The shutdown caused issues for communication, digital banking, business as well as journalists reporting political and election-related developments in AJK.
Internet services were restored ahead of the second phase of AJK Legislative Assembly elections in Muzaffarabad Division.
Previously, the Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, who is in Muzaffarabad, had asked for the restoration of internet services in the AJK capital during a media talk, demanding connectivity be restored prior to the polling in the division.
The shutdown of internet service had been a matter of concern for residents and media organizations especially as the area moved into an important part of the electoral process.
