Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over its reaction to a recent court verdict concerning jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, saying the party’s efforts to secure relief for its leader had reached “new heights.”
In a post on X, Asif said the party’s celebration of the verdict reflected its strong desire to see Imran Khan released from prison. He also recalled PTI leaders’ previous calls for political opponents to be imprisoned and subjected to harsh conditions.
The defence minister questioned the party’s current demand for Imran Khan to be shifted from prison to a hospital, saying it was inconsistent with its earlier portrayal of him as an “invincible” and “iron man.”
At the same time, Asif said there was no objection to providing Imran Khan with immediate and comprehensive medical treatment, noting that prisoners had previously been treated at hospitals.
He urged PTI to address what he described as contradictions in its political stance rather than celebrating the court verdict.
